LURNZ is used to empirically investigate the potential impacts of policies that may alter land-use decisions. The model is designed to produce dynamic paths of rural land-use change, land-use maps, and maps of land-use change across New Zealand.
LURNZ can also produce maps of land-use intensity and greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture. LURNZ has been used to simulate the land-use impacts of including agriculture in an emissions trading scheme, and to estimate the impact of dairy expansion on water quality.
